Neil Newbon recently did an interview with The Gamer, in which he talked about his process for becoming Astarion, along with his thoughts on LGBTQ+ solidarity. I think that’s a beautiful message, especially these days when we’ve seen great strides in the LGBTQ+ community, but also seen this unfortunate right wing sweep back against us, especially in America where we’ve seen horrendous laws come into effect.

Like I'm not ONE OF THOSE POSTERS I legit am fine with gay romances, straight romances, poly whatever, just if the game changes everyone's sexuality based on who you're playing the whole like "who this guy is" of each character gets a lot foggier.

Neil Newbon, who voices fan favorite vampire Astarion, recently reflected on why LGBTQ+ fans connect with his characters so hard.

Anyone who’s playing BG3 will undoubtedly be aware of Astarion.

Do these characters actually have a cannon sexuality? Do character's sexuality all change to suit the PC?

I mean it's possible I've just accidentally met 9 pansexuals which would be a choice, but it would allow them to all have a character. He’s also been fairly prolific in film and TV. Newbon went on to talk about how he identifies a lot with Astarion.

“The big thing for me identifying with Astarion is that he’s pansexual.

I’m really blown away by that, and I feel humbled by it all. It seems quite clear that Newbon understands this and shows full queer allyship. Githyanki attacked the spelljammer as it traveled over Yartar while seated atop red dragons.

The nautiloid crashed when it teleported through the aircraft, and Astarion was left someplace on the other side of the River Chionthar.

Upon awakening, Astarion discovered that he had changed and become somehow stronger; instead of going through the ceremorphosis process, Astarion was able to withstand sunlight and speak telepathically.

What Are Astarion’s Abilities?

Due to a mind-flayer tadpole infestation, Astarion was able to do things that a vampire or their offspring shouldn’t be able to accomplish, such as roam freely during the day, pass through moving water unscathed, and enter homes without permission.

While others with the same affliction tried to get rid of the parasite, Astarion worked to master it and his newfound abilities.
