Fun bar with stage perfect for drag performances, bingo nights, and events. The birthplace of gay liberation says “yes!” to empowerment and “hell, yes!” to go–go boys. There are plenty of LGBTQ+ things to do in New York, but if it’s a bar you’re looking for, we’ve got you covered.

RECOMMENDED: Full guide to the best bars in NYC

May 2025: We removed Ginger's and Barracuda Lounge.

This is one of the oldest lesbian bars in NYC. Patrons love the inclusive vibe and the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals in a comfortable setting.

One customer considered it a home away from home. Maybe your interests skew more trendy and urbane, or perhaps you're more of the down-and-dirty hook-up spots, the "what happens on the weekends, stays on the weekends" type — we're not here to judge!

It has the best DJs and offers a friendly gay environment making it one of our favorite gay bars and clubs in NYC for the queer crowd. Go early for space!

Respect Space

Each bar has its own vibe and community. Yes, it is. There are already Western-themed gay bars in the state like Flaming Saddles. One of its standout features is “Piano Bar Sundays,” where talented performers take the stage to serenade guests with live music, adding a touch of nostalgia to the modern atmosphere.

But the bar itself is also very much worth visiting, for nightly cocktail specials, karaoke and drag performances.

Why we love it: It’s casual but very fun, and karaoke happens every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday with a fabulous drag queen host.

4. Branded Saloon

What is it?A Prospect Heights honky tonk that’s proudly queer, this mainstay offers a low–key option for those who want to share sangria and chill vibes with friends.

Why we love it:It’s an after–work spot where the baked mac and cheese is as good as the queer atmosphere, particularly if you come on country music night.

Time Out tip: Watch parties, open mics, trivia, drag brunch and more are great activities for those who prefer structured activities to socialize.

Address: 603 Vanderbilt Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11238

5. Suite Bar

What is it?Is the fact that this self–declared “gay pub with a local feel” is attached to a fast–casual Indian restaurant a big draw?

Tucked away in the heart of the East Village, it exudes a welcoming and unpretentious vibe that draws both locals and visitors alike.

22. Pink Metal

What is it? If you like your kink with a wink and a drink, think pink.
